Facemelt started as a ball point pen drawing
in a sketchbook, which is included as the front cover and first page of the book. I then scanned the drawing into my computer and started using my drawing stylus to clean up and add detail to the image in Adobe Photoshop. After a few days of working, I realized that if I saved my drawing as a new file, each and every time I worked on it (ex: facemelt01, facemelt02, facemelt03, etc..), I could go back and see all the things I had previously drawn and re-drawn, and even erased.
Each of the 104 pages of art in this book reveals one work session (the front and back of each page is the same), representing on average 2-3 hours of new drawing since the page before it. The last page and back cover of this book marks the completion of the drawing. A drawing process which began in the fall of 2006, and finished in the spring of 2007. Then a year later, in the spring of 2008, this book was first made.
